Leak Detection – Pipe Repair & Replacement

Water pipe leaking? Contact the Experts at Simpson Plumbing.

A seemingly small leak can waste a lot of water, money and potentially damage your home and property. Water pipes can leak due to a variety of reasons. Some of the reasons are as simple as temperature change. If pipes are exposed and not insulated they are vulnerable to heat and cold, as well as quick temperature changes. When that happens, the pipe can crack or burst and cause a leak. During the winter weather months, some pipes may freeze causing them to contract. When water comes through, the pipe expands and forms a crevice, which then can turn into a crack later on. Other reasons include: clogged pipes, roots growing in the pipe, corrosion, ground settling or shifting, and there are many more. All of these can damage the pipe from the inside out and from the outside in.

Listening to your water pipes is the best way to recognize if there’s a leak or not. And doing so may prevent dealing with bigger issues later! If you hear a rumbling noise or a woosh sound, that may be indicative of a leak. Air gaps from the leaks can create a number of sounds. We also recommend that you keep an eye on your water bill and check on your meter periodically. If you see a spike in your bill or see that your meter is spinning with the water shut off, that is a signal that water is leaking out. Or, maybe you’re already acquainted with the leak and need a plumber, fast. Well, Simpson Plumbing is ready to send out experienced technicians your way, with equipment to find exactly where it is and take care of the problem.

Slab Leak Repair

While the phrase “home slab leak” may not be well-known to people outside the plumbing industry, it’s a problem that is all too common. If you see signs of water leaks, such as discoloration in the floor or walls, or your water bill is higher than you think it should be, you may be dealing with this exact problem. Don’t delay, or you may be dealing with a much more costly structural problem if the water is allowed to continue its destructive ways!

Slab leaks most often occur when leaks form in the water pipes under your home’s foundation or when leaks form in the actual concrete slab the home is resting on. You can also learn more about how they happen here. Simpson Plumbing has the experience you need to offer the right approach for your slab repair needs. While it is uncommon, we can also do a slab replacement when it has been damaged beyond repair.

Hose Bib Leaks

Hose bibs (hose/water spigot): the things you forget about during the winter and remember come spring and summer. These control the outflow of water to your outdoor water hose. Hose bibs serve many important purposes for keeping gardens and yards watered, cars washed, pools filled, and children able to fill up their summer toys or balloons.  While hose bib leaks are usually small, they waste a large amount of water and can cause damage to the foundation of your home if leaking. Depending on the location, they can also cause interior water damage. So it’s important that if you find your hose bib leaking, you get it taken care of! We are always glad to help and have frost-free hose bibs available to prevent them from freezing in the winter.

How to check for leaky hose bib:

  1. Place your thumb over the hose bib opening (called the spigot).
  2. Turn on the water.
  3. The level of water pressure is a good way to measure if you could have a leak. If you can’t hold back the water, then it’s working just fine. However, if the water pressure is low, this could be a sign of a leak.

Running and Leaking Toilets

It’s one of the most common plumbing annoyances: the dreaded running or leaking toilet. However, a running toilet is more than just an annoyance; it’s a waste of water. And if you have a leak, the problem is much more immediate. When a simple jiggle of the handle isn’t enough, or you have a leak that needs emergency plumbing services, we’re here to help.

Toilets: Your home’s most important plumbing fixture

Did you know that toilets are by far the main source of water use in the home? On average, toilets account for 30 percent of a home’s water usage. If your toilet has sprung a leak or is running constantly, that’s potentially hundreds or thousands of dollars in water usage wasted every year! Below is a list of common problems that Simpson Plumbing techs routinely fix:

  • Toilet leaks around the base
  • Toilet rocks back and forth or side to side
  • Toilet leaks around the tank
  • Toilet water constantly runs or turns off and on
  • Toilet is clogged, drains slowly, or clogs constantly
  • Toilet makes a screeching or banging noise
  • Toilet tank constantly sweats on the outside

Don’t see your needs listed? Don’t worry, we’ve seen pretty much everything in over 30 years of business and will take care of your plumbing issues quickly and efficiently. While mere nuisances for a time, many of these problems can turn into expensive repairs if not fixed. From rising water bills to severe water damage and the potential for mold to grow inside the home, it’s imperative that you get your toilet repaired as soon as you notice a problem.

Tub and Shower Leak Repair

Any plumbing can leak. The important part is to catch it, so pay attention to the drips as well some other signs.

Signs of Tub and Shower Leaks

  1. If you have water dripping from the shower head, it is usually a sign of a leak in the shower valve. Over time, the O-Ring gets worn which causes particles to clog up the spray holes. Cleaning the shower head to remove the deposits is a good place to start. And if the O-Ring is hard, replacing it might solve the issue.
  2. Watch out for musty odors, damp spots on the floor, walls or ceiling. Those are big signs of something gone wrong. We would be more than happy to locate the root of the issue for you (as there are multiple causes).
  3. If you have water on the floor after showering or taking a bath, check the caulking along the shower door, or bathtub. The caulking might be old and cracked and allow water to pass through, causing the leak.

Below is a list of common problems associated with shower fixtures that Simpson Plumbing techs fix/install routinely. Don’t see your needs listed? Don’t worry, we’ve seen pretty much everything in over 30 years of business and will take care of your plumbing issues quickly and efficiently.

  • Leaking shower head
  • Tub spout is dripping
  • Tub/diverter spout leaks water by or doesn’t divert water to the shower head.
  • Drain is leaking
  • Water is coming from your ceiling near your upstairs bathroom. This typically is the shower strainer that is leaking and causing water to drip into your downstairs. Early warning signs are sheetrock discoloration or sagging for this type of leak. Delays in fixing this problem could cause major issues due to mold and warping. Other issues may be that there are cracks in your tile or grout.
  • Crack in the fiberglass of the tub or shower.
  • Loose tub overflow or stopper.
  • Clogged tub or shower drains
  • Sheetrock behind valve or head is discoloring or soft
